Emergency HGV Tyre Fitting: What Happens When You Call Us

Never used an emergency mobile tyre service before? Here's a step-by-step walkthrough of what happens from the moment you call to getting back on the road.

Step 1: The Initial Call

When you call our 24/7 emergency HGV tyre line, you'll be connected directly to a trained dispatch operative — not a call centre reading from a script. Our dispatcher will ask for your precise location (motorway number and marker post, or A-road name and nearest town), your vehicle registration and configuration, the tyre size if known (usually found on the tyre sidewall), whether the vehicle is safely off the carriageway, and whether any other damage occurred alongside the tyre failure. This information takes under two minutes to collect and allows us to dispatch the right technician with the right tyre immediately.

Step 2: Dispatch and ETA Confirmation

Our dispatch system locates the nearest available technician carrying your required tyre size from our network of regional depots and mobile units. You'll receive a confirmation call or SMS within five minutes of your initial call, confirming your technician's name, vehicle registration, and estimated time of arrival. Our average ETA for motorway locations is 45-60 minutes; for rural A-roads it's typically 60-90 minutes. You'll receive live updates if there are any delays.

Step 3: On-Site Assessment

On arrival, our technician will conduct a brief safety assessment before beginning work — checking that the vehicle is safely positioned, hazard warning lights are active, and appropriate warning signs are in place. They'll then inspect the failed tyre to confirm the fault and check the adjacent tyres for any secondary damage. If the vehicle has sustained wheel or hub damage in addition to tyre failure, our technician will advise on the options and, if required, can coordinate with our network of heavy recovery specialists.

Step 4: Tyre Replacement

Commercial tyre replacement on an HGV requires specialist equipment. Our mobile units carry heavy-duty tyre changing machines capable of handling tyres up to super-single and wide-base configurations, torque wrenches calibrated to manufacturer specifications, nitrogen or compressed air inflation equipment, and wheel balancing capability for steer axle replacements. Most single tyre replacements are completed within 30-45 minutes of the technician arriving on site.

Step 5: Back on the Road

Before releasing the vehicle, our technician checks all tyre pressures across the axle and advises the driver of any observations about remaining tyre condition. A digital job report is generated immediately and emailed to the fleet contact — or added to the fleet account record if you have a tyre account with us. Payment can be made by card on-site or invoiced to a fleet account. Our goal is always to have your driver back on the road in the shortest possible time, safely and compliantly.
